Mapping The Evolution of Metaverse Technologies In Tourism: A Bibliometric Analysis
This investigation intends to investigate the recent and significant trend in metaverse technology applications in the tourism industry using a dataset of 111 scholarly articles drawn from 57 different journals and conference proceedings in Scopus and Web of Science This research utilized the PRISMA framework to ensure the reliability of the data. Furthermore, the data was examined using the biblioshiny web interface with the help of the R application. The analysis in-cludes science mapping as a co-occurrence and co-citation network and also contains conceptual structure and intellectual structure with textual analysis. The findings reveal a steady growth in publications and contributing authors, and they identify core research themes and emerging subtopics in metaverse-and-tourism research. This is the first study to apply bibliometric analysis (via the RStudio /Biblioshiny toolset) to metaverse-related tourism literature (2015–2023). This study also proposes a research design for future research and provides practical implications for the tourism sector.
