Use Cases For V2x Motorcycle Applications
Motorcycles represent a significant portion of the global vehicle usage, especially in urban areas of developing countries. However, they remain highly vulnerable in road traffic, accounting for a disproportionate number of severe injuries and fatalities. Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication technologies have shown great potential to enhance safety and situational awareness for connected and automated vehicles. Yet, most V2X research and development efforts have focused on cars and infrastructure, leaving motorcycles largely unexplored. This article states the need to implement V2X in motorcycles, while analyzing the challenges of implementation, by proposing a set of use cases tailored to the dynamics and constraints of two-wheeled vehicles. Identified use cases such as intersection collision warning, blind spot lane change assistance, road hazard and collision risk warning, highlight how V2X can improve motorcycle safety and traffic flow.
