Agri-Food 5.0 For Table Grapes: An Iot-Based Framework For Traceability and Decision Support
Table grapes are a high-value perishable commodity whose quality may deteriorate rapidly throughout the post-harvest supply chain due to cold-chain disruptions, dehydration, microbial proliferation, and suboptimal packaging and storage practices. Within the Agri-Food 5.0 paradigm, this research presents a bilateral Portugal–Italy project proposing an integrated framework that combines Internet of Things (IoT) sensor technologies, real-time data analytics, and traceability to support continuous quality monitoring and evidence-based decision-making in the table grape sector. The framework enables real-time acquisition of environmental and product-related parameters and automated alerts for deviation detection. A prototype will be developed and tested in Portuguese supply chains and subsequently validated in Italian distribution networks to assess scalability and interoperability. Expected outcomes include earlier detection of quality deviations, enhanced supply-chain transparency, reduced post-harvest losses, and improved sustainability performance. This research contributes to digital transformation in agri-food systems by integrating sensing technologies, data intelligence, and distributed ledger mechanisms into a cohesive decision-support architecture.
